Sky and Ocean Brown were staying with us and invited friends from around the world to come skate, including Yurin Fujii, Nyimas Bunga Cinta, Kisa Nakamura and Kako Yoshida. We were all amazed by their world class skateboarding and how hard they skated. The highlights of the jam were definitely brought by the women. The girls just sent it! Lauren Hill summed it up best in her reflection of the event, “I know that feeling of paddling out into a lineup and questioning whether I belong as the only woman out. And I hope that [questioning] dies with my generation.” The girls at the Bowl Jam came out shooting first and
didn’t even ask any questions later. Tunes were provided by one of our favorites, Kuta punk band The Sneakers, with cold beers from Island Brewing and hot pizza brought down from our Mana restaurant for everyone to enjoy. Catch you at next year’s jam!

Two not-so-secret ingredients, the gold standard 00 Italian flour and San Marzano tomatoes, make our pizza next level. The flour creates a soft and chewy sour dough crust, while the tomatoes provide a rich and flavorful sauce. There’s nothing like eating authentic Italian pizza while watching authentic world-class waves reel. We had an impromptu taste testing party by the Mana pool, with Harry Bryant and friends enjoying the full offerings and pairing hot pies with cold beers on tap from Island Brewing. The classic pepperoni featuring Bali’s premium meats from Jono’s Artisanal Butchery was the group favorite.

Next up for the monthly Art Gallery Series! Each month we host a gallery opening at Mana showcasing the timeless works of Indonesian artists. We love having everyone join us in meeting the artists, appreciating their work, sharing a few beverages and tasty eats. In June we welcomed artist Bagus Sari Muaruta from Bali and in July we had a dual show titled “Wave Movement” with Aris Sarmanta and Made Griyawan. We have been delighted with the response from friends and guests, and we have especially enjoyed collecting beautiful pieces for our spaces here. Next month we welcome our own Ayu Slip. Her exhibition opens on Friday, August 18th, joining forces with the launch of Emocean magazine issue 05. Join us that evening for great art, good tunes, and the Bali premier of Jack Coleman’s film Natural High.
