USV Journals
July and August brought a big swell, screening, and a property full of surf and art world characters. Back-to-back Indian Ocean
pulses, clean offshore wind, it’s no mystery as to why everyone turned up.

Film Nights by the Pool
at Mana
Two big ones this season, both screened outdoors at the pool.
On 11 July we hosted Ritualistic Tendencies, the first full-length film from Ritual Vision – a year of surfing shot by Wade Carroll with Dion Agius on second camera, featuring
some of the best surfers in the world.
Then on 15 August we screened DEFECT, the new film from Former. Craig Anderson and James Kusitino came along, and a big crowd stayed on well past the credits.

Bowl Jam
We were glad to host Sky Brown for her 18th birthday in July. Family and friends filled Ocean View 8 and Ocean View 27, cooked most
nights, and made themselves at home. The skate jam brought out Yuro Nagahara, Taylor Nye, Shota Mizote, Kalani Staricoff, Chris Russell,
Jason Lijnzaat, Daniel Wooley, Ruby Trew, Isadora Pacheco, and her brother Ocean Brown. The bowl ran all afternoon, and the lineup
stayed busy long after. Sky’s back with us for the Keris Cup in November.

Shane Borland and friends were skating our bowl last Saturday, and it was great to host last year’s Keris Cup winner again. The
Bizzare, a local band we’ve had our eye on for a while, played as part of the bowl jam and did not disappoint.

Mana Gallery
Echoes Within / Jiwa Raga by Aharimu & Agugn
Curated by Ruang Fungsi
Our current show features Aharimu and Agugn, two Indonesian artists working between Bali and Java. They explore the human form, nature,
and duality through vibrant paintings, heavy texture, and reduction linocut prints. Opening night was a good one — plenty of people,
plenty of conversation.

Keris Cup
4 – 7 November 2026
Kai Neville changed what a surf film could look like. Modern Collective, Dear Suburbia, Cluster — a generation of surfers learned how
they wanted to be filmed by watching his edits. His film of last year’s Keris Cup runs 23 minutes and catches exactly what that week
felt like, with surfing in it nobody has seen before.

Watch it loud. Then come see it in person this November — Kai is directing again this year, on the ground for the whole week.

Two Ways to do November
The Keris Cup, runs 4-7 November. Book during the comp and you’re in the middle of it – the bowl jams, the film screenings, the whole
cliff buzzing with people who’ve come a long way to be here.
Or come later in the month, once the pros have gone home and the island settles back into itself. That’s shoulder season at its best:
glassy mornings, a thin lineup, rain here and there but gardens coming back lush.
